Biographical Sketch

Gideon was the son of John Hottel and Elizabeth Pfeiffern Huddle. He was born in Virginia and died in Cripple Creek, Wythe County, Virginia. He married Barbara Gose on 17 Dec 1795. They were parents of eleven children.

There seems to be much confusion on dates for Gideon. The dates in the date section of his memorial are those shown in "The New Hottel History, George Line" published in 1998 by B Paul Huddle. You will note the dates on the bronze plaque beside the marker in the picture reflect other dates.

Information for His brother, John Huddle shows his birthdate as 1772. If this is correct then Gideon was more likely born in 1770.
