Biographical Sketch
"Poppa" was born in Hopkins County, Texas to James Burton and Nebraska Ann Neal Thomas.
Brother to (including 3 sets of twins!) John Laban Thomas; Ida Cynthia Thomas; Charles Oscar Thomas; James Henry Thomas; twins Ancil Hendricks Thomas and Grover Cleveland Thomas (died at birth); his twin sister who died at birth, Rachel Bertha Thomas (died at birth); William Burton Thomas; David Hubert Thomas and twin sister Mary Odessa (Dessie) Thomas Stell.
As a PFC in the US Army, 358 Infantry, 90 Division, he served our county during WWI as a machine gunner where he was exposed to Mustard gas.
Poppa married Frances Lillie Mae Hodge (Granny) on July 20, 1916 in Boswell, Choctaw County, Oklahoma.
He was a talented fiddle player and enjoyed making music with his brothers!

After WWI, Poppa farmed and worked making railroad ties, but the mustard gas poisoning was too much and eventually caused his horrible death.
