Biographical Sketch

Rachel Helen Maples Thomas was born in Morgan, Alabama. She was the oldest child of John Henry Maples and Elizabeth Sharp. Her grandparents were William Cordra Maples and Nancy Long and Thomas Sharp Sr. and Elizabeth Hodge. Her brothers and sisters were: Matilda Maples Lynn, Isaac Maples, James W. Maples, Mary Eliza Maples Ferguson, Francis Scott Maples, Caroline Edy Maples Thompson, Harriett J Maples Henson, Elizabeth Ann Maples, John Thomas Maples and Rebecca E Maples Moore.

Rachel married Laban Gilbert Thomas on December 2, 1837 in Morgan County, Alabama.

For many years they lived in Guntown, Mississippi.

Thirteen children were born to Rachel and Laban... Martha Lattie Thomas; Bertha Thomas twin to John Laban Thomas; Nancy Elizabeth Ann Thomas; James F. Thomas; William E. Thomas; Benjamin K.
