The vast majority of the information in this site is based on the research of Mary Louise Stewart Claunch, who spent hours in libraries, archives and other dusty places digging out the details of the Stewart family's past and that of her husband's, Charles L. Claunch, Jr. She started her research before the advent of the Internet and her hand-written and typed documents filled seven binders thick with history.

Miss Sallie Letters

Found among the belongings of Ann Elizabeth Colvard Claunch was a box of letters dated from about 1850 through 1868 that had been passed down from generation to generation. Many of these letters were addressed to "Miss Sallie" - Sarah Ann Hunt - who was a great aunt several times removed from Ann Elizabeth Claunch. Mary Louise Claunch transcribed these letters, many of which are faded and barely legible in places. The letters cover a range of topics and places, with several written by members serving in the Confederate army during the War Between the States.
