Sarah Ann Hunt Hughes was born December 28, 1839 near Dalton, Georgia. Over the years, she sent and received a considerable number of letters to and from friends and family. Some of these letters were preserved and found in a box among the belongings of Ann Elizabeth Colvard Claunch.
All of the letters were handwritten and some are in very poor condition, nearly illegible. Mary Louise Stewart Claunch transcribed many of these letters and we have include those transcriptions here, along with scanned images for each letter.
Sarah Ann Hunt Hughes was the sister of Elizabeth Margaret Hunt Johnson. Elizabeth was Ann Elizabeth Colvard Claunch's great grandmother, so Sarah Ann Hunt Hughes was her great grandmother's sister.
