Biographical Sketch
He was the son of Stephen Gose ( 1793-1824) and Polly Porter Gose (1797-1872). He married Mary Madgaline Elizabeth Kettering on 29 Sep 1842 in Wytheville, Wythe County, Virginia. George Robert brought his family to Texas after June 1859 and before March 1862.
George Robert served in the Civil War as a first Lt. Lamar County Beat # 4, 9th. Brigade, Texas Militia.
George and Polly had nine children; John Andrew, at one time a sheriff of Lamar County, Mary Jane, Elizabeth Ann, Malinda Margaret, Joseph Catron, Sovinah Organ, George Robert Crockett, Stephen William and James Valentine, the only child born in Texas.
